The Youth Red Cross unit at Government Women’s College, Sundargarh, strives to inculcate humanitarian principles, service-mindedness, and active citizenship among students. In alignment with the core vision of the Indian Red Cross Society, the YRC aims to motivate young women to become self-reliant, socially responsible, and morally committed individuals who are willing to offer their service during times of need.
The primary aim is to foster a spirit of Health, Service, and Friendship through structured activities that enhance both individual character and collective welfare. Students are encouraged to engage in awareness campaigns, volunteer programs, and capacity-building exercises that prepare them to serve the community in times of disaster, health crisis, or social need.
To inspire, encourage, and initiate at all times, all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized, alleviated, and even prevented, contributing to a more congenial climate for peace.
Encourage students to become self-sufficient and respectful of all types of work by actively participating in service activities like cleaning drives, health camps, blood donation camps and community service.
Equip youth with basic skills in first aid, disaster response, and community healthcare to enable them to provide timely assistance during emergencies and natural calamities.
Organize regular health check-ups, medical awareness campaigns (e.g., for HIV/AIDS, dengue, malaria), and workshops to instill healthy habits and enhance public health.
Strengthen cross-cultural understanding and unity by observing global humanitarian days and participating in inter-college YRC events, fostering peace and friendship.
